The Reality of Truth

Do you want to know the truth of things? Or are you happy with the prevailing status quo?

Do you want to know the truth of things, even if it goes against the status quo or proves you wrong?

This can be a real dilemma of conscience —to be unafraid to discover that we have been wrong, and then to adjust our thinking and opinions to a new found truth.

Changing our views as a result of becoming aware of previously undiscovered truth could cause problems with our family, our friends, even our employment.  It could change our political perspectives and impact our political party affiliations.

But truth is truth.

And when it is presented fairly and unbiased, can we do anything but acknowledge it?

I have recently become aware of facts of which I was previously unaware.  I am embarrassed to admit this, but it simply was not a focus for me…until now.

The culprit is the republican primary.  As I have been seriously studying all the candidates, I found myself focusing on foreign policy issues.

The foreign policies espoused by these candidates really fall into one of two camps—interventionism and non-interventionism.

The reasons and motivations for interventionism are well discussed in the media and by the various political parties and I was pretty familiar with their position, it was the non-interventionism that intrigued me.

To take a non-intervention stance in America today is paramount to being anti-American.

Everyone knows that we have been attacked and that there is a war on terror.   We need to defend ourselves and payback the guilty parties for killing 3,000 innocent civilians and retaliate for 6,341 American soldier casualties we have incurred since the commencement of hostilities.  And we need to promote democracy (personal liberty and republican form of government) around the world.

But what if we discovered that we were actually harming the expansion of democracy?

What if we discovered that in the past, our government had actually destroyed democracy and setup tyranny in a country that we are now targeting as a threat to democracy?

What if we were angry with a country for making threatening gestures toward us and our way of life, only to discover that our government destroyed their chances of democracy with violence and bloodshed, had hundreds of their democratic leaders arrested, tortured and killed and installed a dictator–all for money?

What if our past wrongs and continual interference in the affairs of this country are the current fuel for their hatred and threats towards us and our friends?

What if we discovered that this all happened only 58 years ago?

Do you want to know the truth, or would you rather remain in ignorance?

(this is not an insult, I am still very ignorant of many things. Ignorance simply means I don’t know…yet.)

Some of you will be angry with me…some will unsubscribe from this blog…but many of you will study this information, experience a series of emotions and finally change some long held views.

This is called the “Transformation of Education.”

Enjoy!

Summary of a new found truth:

1. The U.S. government over threw the government of a Middle Eastern, non-Arab country in 1953.

2. This country had developed its own constitutional monarchy as of 1906, and was well on its way to industrial modernization.

3. This country had been exploited by Great Britain since the 1920’s for its rich oil revenues. After repeated calls for a more equitable distribution of these revenues, in 1951 the Prime Minister nationalized the country’s oil operations, effectively cutting Great Britain out of the picture.  Previous to these interactions with Great Britain, the Untied States and this country had excellent relations and were partners in the Cold War.

4. In 1953, the United States reversed its position and the CIA and MI6 collaborated to overthrow the government and install an authoritarian monarchy.

5. Even though the average citizen of the United States is completely unaware of these historical facts, the citizens and leaders of this country have never forgotten their ill treatment at our hands.

6. Today, the United States is threatening another invasion of this country.  Is it any wonder they are furious with us?

  1. Fantastic job, Shanon. It’s amazing how many people who currently view Iran as the biggest threat in the world tend to temper their views of the Persians after glimpsing the bigger picture.

    1. I agree.

Our mutual friend Cyrus in Cedar City, taught le a lot about the difference of the Persia from the Arab world, really no comparison. If we all knew the truth of our relations with them during the past 60 years, we would have a very different foreign policy regarding Iran.

As a side note, my view is that if you are going to wage war, go at it 110%. This would do two things, one-it would end the conflict quickly and two-it would cause us to loose our taste for it pretty quickly.

  2. Time to come out of the “cave” and into the light. It’s a bit hard to look at , at first. But slowly, you can see very clearly and realize that all you have ever seen before has been shadows.

    1. Of course, you are making reference to Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, but yes, things are almost never what they appear.

The question is how much truth can you handle….how far down the rabbit hole do you want to go???

      I must see it all!

      1. The question is how much truth can you handle…. And how much do you trust your government…. I must see it all too! my eyes where opened or i took the blue pill or fell down the rabbit hole april 15th of 2008 as i attended a “Tea Party” rally on tax day and received a documentary from a friend “The Obama Deception” by radio talk show host and film maker Alex Jones. to my surprise it was an eye opening film as are all 14+ of Alex’s films. and I AM MAD AS HELL!

Thank you Dr Brooks for all you’ve done and continue to do for us and our country.

“Resistance to Tyranny is obedience to God”

        1. I believe that this is a struggle that will required us to be our very best, to develop great stamina and be will to endure much.

Love of family, willingness to sacrifice for others, and to loss ourselves for the benefit of our fellowman is the call.

  3. The hypocrisy of our actions in this case are staggering.

The question in my mind is “How do we (the U.S.) proceed from here?” Is there any way to right the situation at this point? Did we miss an opportunity during the 2009 Iranian uprising or would that have just been more meddling?

Perhaps this is a lesson in what happens when we act on our fears and desires instead of adhering to our principles.

    1. I think RP is right, just stop meddling, leave them alone. Be prepared to defend ourselves in a very strong way, but just leave them alone.

In fact, how about an old fashion apology.

      1. RP is only echoing Geo. Washington and many of the Founders. If, by some miracle, RP is elected president, and he does as he says and returns all our armies home, do you think that would cause instability abroad and threaten our security?

An interesting historical read are the “Uncle Eric” history series by Richard Maybury.

  4. When I returned from Viet Nam I was driven with the desire to learn everything about the country I fought in as a U.S. Marine. The more I learned the more I saw and understood how things could have been handled in other ways. History repeats itself. Its the same thing all over again. Ho was not an enemy to this country. In fact he studied the Constitution of our Country. When the French would not leave he called upon the Russian communist to assist him. They did, and quite often it was with the technologies we gave them. Over 80 ships built by the U.S. brought supplies to North Viet Nam. Do we creat our enemies? Do we have spies within the State DEpartment as during WW2 who help set foreign policies? Its the never ending story of intrigue

    Great Article Shanon
It brings out the thinking cap and causes one to reflect upon the worlds many problems.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and Joyous New Year

  5. Many people I talk to about the upcoming election, like everything about Ron Paul, but when it comes to his foreign policy, that’s when the Nationalism mentality comes out and they say he’s nuts, or worse. Unfortunately, the debate format does not allow him time to explain what would happen if we followed his, and our Founder’s, foreign policy.

It would be interesting to hear him develop the topic and see how that resonates with the people.

    1. I think that the “Establishment” is afraid of Ron Paul. If he wasn’t a threat to their “System” they wouldn’t have unleashed the hounds. i.e. the Government sponsored media and the Presstitutes on a major smear campaign.

I believe that the American people are waking up like never before. and thier eyes are open to the truth.

if people truly understood what was going on over seas. Ron Pauls foreign policy wouldn’t seem radical.

Our Constitution talks about our sovereignty rights as human beings. As such having our military occupying foreign countries long term might i add with bases everywhere. we are no better than the “Terrorists.” and are crippling those countries and their sovereignty.

i recently had an opportunity to go work in the middle east on a construction project. the job fell through. but i was amazed from the response from friends, family and co-workers.

some of them thought i was crazy and borderline suicidal. I responded I’m a hundred times more afraid of being sexually assaulted or indefinitely detained by the illegal TSA than I was of the “Terrorists”.

If we really want to protect our country from “Terrorists” we need to send all our active troops to Washington D.C.

      1. Bryan,

Certainly we have major issues to overcome in the United States.

I agree that major changes need to happen in Washington, however, I think that for that to even have a chance of happening, we first need to make major changes at the state level and resurrect our state sovereignty in the spirit of Federalism.

  6. I am not surprised. We did the same thing to China during that time. We have a big mess on our hands and it will take only a humble, virtuous, God-fearing people to set things right again. God help us!

  7. Sharon, you are exactly right as to what passed in the 1950s in Iran. We followed the same pathway when we overthrew the Arbenz elected government in Guatemala in 1954 and the Allende government in Chile in 1973. The great difference is that Iran is not populated by people who have a short memory. We made the already bad situation worse by assisting Saddam Hussain fight a war agains Iran in the 1980s which resulted in 800,000 Iranian deaths. I have newspaper clips of Donald Rumsfeld with Saddam in 1987 practically hugging the dictator after an arms and other deals were done. Why do we not know about these things in our society to better understand why the world is as it is? Because in my humble opinion, we are glued to the every move of celebrities and know so little about history, because it is taught in a boring manner. When more Americans know about the 1953 coup d’etat in Iran than know what a Kardashian is wearing, we may be able to have a national dialogue.
